Week 1 Midweek Summary

Summary Post Assignment 1:

It’s amazing how much time one can take just choosing a domain name. You might wonder where “TealDeal” came from, however the origins aren’t very complex. Basically, I like the color teal and how it rhymed with the word deal. Mash them together, and that’s how it came to be.

I found it tricky to quickly get familiar enough with posting introductions on Twitter, SoundCloud, YouTube, and Flickr to introduce myself and most importantly, to be creative in the process. It was tough to know how much creativity is required and what details about me would make for interesting posts. With the different digital media tools, I had to spend a bit of time just getting comfortable with navigating the page and learning the steps required to use them properly. I have never used most of these social media web sites before, so I had to set up accounts for all of them.

I am continuously learning about WordPress and all of its features and plugins and all that it is able to do for my domain. It took some doing, but I was able to customize my theme on WordPress so that it wasn’t just one of the default themes. I found it simple to embed media, just paste in the URL and I was set. However, the embedded photograph from my Flickr account looked blurry to me when it was displayed in WordPress, and I wasn’t sure how to fix that. When I checked the page proper, it turned out that the picture looked just fine. So that was a confusing endeavor. The other embeds to my other site intros worked very easily. I think the trick to having a good or successful blog is to write enough but not too much. In my first blog, I’m not sure how well I did, but hope to get better at that as time goes on.
